Requiem

July 5, 1997 · Print This Article

Requiem was a troubled production. Several team members, including the moderator, dropped off the face of the Earth for intermittent periods. When it was finally released it was branded as a beta, and I don’t think there ever was an update. Despite its troubled history and late release, Requiem is a really good map pack with some impressive levels by the greats of the Doom editing. It was included in DoomWorld’s Top 100 WADs Of All Time. I created 4 levels for Requiem.

IMO Requiem was the best Mega WAD of them all, I still remember almost all of the levels, some of them were absolute perfection of Doom single player mapping: Poison Processing, Fireworks, The Reactor, Rats in the Walls, Militant Reprisal, Dens of Iniquity are just a few names that spring to mind. Some of those levels were HUGE as well and caused save games to crash out as they had too many items.

Someone DID do an “unofficial” update to it later to fix at least the deathmatch bugs that some of the levels had, though I am not sure if any of the numerous visplane overflows were fixed.

Requiem also had fantastic music, which I think is overlooked.

Guilty as charged, my map15 for Requiem crashed when you tried to save the game early on :)

I really like your mapping (especially for Requiem), done with the true German taste. I made new world-record demos for your levels (4, 9, 15):

    MAP04 UV 100/100, 3:41
    MAP09 UV 100/100, 5:30
    MAP09 UV Speedrun, 1:49
    MAP15 UV 100/100, 8:48
MAP15 UV Speedrun (normal exit), 2:48
MAP15 UV Speedrun (secret exit), 1:56

If you want, you can download the zipfiles with these LMPs at Doomworld:
