Quake Expo 2008 and an Interview

August 24, 2008 · Print This Article

Have you heard of Quake Expo? I hadn’t until a few weeks ago, when I stumbled across the 2006 page. Basically, Quake Expo is an effort by the still existing editing community for classic Quake to shine a light on all the editing efforts that are keeping the games alive. There’s virtual booths where people present their work, and various events like speedmapping and speedmodding. Pretty cool.

There’s another Quake Expo this year, and my two items of note are a Beyond Belief 2008 booth that I opened (mostly a recap of material that I’m posting on this page). And an interview with me on Quaddicted. That interview was conducted before I’d got the mad idea to make a new Quake map, btw, which is why none of the work is touched upon.

Huh, I guess my email was caught in a spam filter or lost to the great wide internets, I actually emailed you back in 06 requesting an interview for that expo, as a community feature to pair up with the Romero interview I did.

I’m more than excited however to see that you are making another map, Beyond Belief is one of the measures I use for what makes great single player gameplay, and has been an inspiration in my own indie project.

Thanks for your prior work, your current presence, and your coming efforts!

Hmm, I can’t find an email from you in my old Ocrana account (which is what I used in 2006). Did I reply to your request at all? I’m notorious for forgetting about interviews – but on this one I can’t find any evidence that I ever got the request :-|

I’d wager that since I was at the time primarily using my old Yahoo account, it got flagged as spam, as a lot of the spam I receive is from within Yahoo… One of the reasons I use my work email for most things these days.

But nope, no response was received. I must wonder if the same happened with my email to Sandy Petersen, as he responded to my fanboyemail from 1996 about the Healing Pool quite kindly =)

[...] in the first place, as I was checking links for my old work, stumbled across EZQuake and then the Quake Expo etc. Maybe I can get a few more oldtimers interested with BBelief2008, the same way I got [...]
