Burg Altendorf

The castle that gives Burgaltendorf its name. The town used to be called “Altendorf” before being integrated into the city of Essen in the 70s. There already was an Altendorf in Essen – so our Altendorf became Burgaltendorf.

The castle was originally build in 1180, and the moat was filled with water. These days, only ruins remain.
