Server Move Complete
August 12, 2008 · Print This Article
If you’re reading this post, you have found the new home of the my webpage. My old webserver is running Windows IIS servers, which make WordPress and other PHP apps much more complicated. So I moved to my friend Steve’s local server instead. The new server is running Apache, and now I can use Permalinks and a whole bunch of plugins that I couldn’t run before. There might be a few hitches here and there, if you find one, let me know!
Beyond Belief in EZQuake
August 7, 2008 · Print This Article
I have added video of two Beyond Belief levels to the Quake page. I played the game using EZQuake and the high-res textures, which is pretty damn neat. Much updated graphics! Particle trails, coronas, distance fog, water effects… gives the game a whole new dimension. Check out these 1600×1200 screenshots, and head over to the Quake page to watch the video!
There’s a few definite problems with EZQuake, most stemming from the fact that it’s mostly designed to be a modern QuakeWorld client with multiplayer capabilities. Getting a single-player game going is a bit of a pain in the ass, especially for the uninitiated player. And a few items don’t seem to behave the way they did in regular Quake. The first BBelief map has an elevator that lowers the first Nailgun that the player gets, plus a monster, and this event is completely broken. The gun hovers in the air – it’s impossible to reach it, and the monster is nowhere to be found.
Those are definite annoyances, but checking out a bunch of maps is still a lot of fun!
Gameplay Videos Posted
August 4, 2008 · Print This Article
Through the last week I have added gameplay videos of my levels to the Sin, Unreal, Wheel of Time and Doom pages. Very nice way to show off my work to those who never played the games! Says a lot more than screenshots or text can. I’ll have to do a video of one of the Beyond Belief levels at some point, as well, but for now I’m done
Update: The Beyond Belief video is now posted on the Quake page!

Wow, this page has turned out to be a lot more work than I expected. In a fun way, though – WordPress is making it so easy to add content that I’m going pretty crazy with all the stuff I’m putting in the database. As of this weekend, I have transferred over about two years of blog posts (and comments), written five of the game pages (the Unreal page just went up), and added all downloads from my old page. Things would be going even faster if I didn’t keep tinkering with the layout and sidebars of the page! After that I still have 7 years of blog posts to add, but that’s all backlog and can probably wait for a while.
Victoria’s Page

We spent part of the weekend updating Victoria’s webpage with a new, modified theme (Vanilla Mist). Looks pretty nice, if I may say so myself Go visit her!
Stupid CSS!

See that search box, the search icon and the RSS icon on the top right? They are the bane of my existance. Those elements display differently between Firefox 2, Firefox 3 and IE7. That’s three different ways of CSS interpretation, all with slightly different results! Funnily enough, the Internet Explorer interpretation is actually the closest to the “truth”. Aren’t web standards great?
Update: Hah! I got rid of the search image and now it is working everywhere
Infineon Raceway Timelapse

Testing a WordPress video player. This is a timelapse I recorded at Infineon Raceway when NASCAR was in town last June. The team haulers are lined up on the drag strip, waiting to park in the garage area. This took ~45 minutes in realtime.
New Page Online

Here we go! Over the last few weeks I’ve been working on a new webpage, finally powered by WordPress and all the niceties that PHP and dynamic content offer, and I think the page is far enough along to put it online. The front page displays the latest blog posts and latest releases (usually video), making sure that nothing important is getting lost in the shuffle. The portfolio and articles page will receive a similar treatment. Of course those pages are still missing, as are 99% of my old posts. The design isn’t 100% yet either, I think. So don’t be surprised if things keep changing over the next few days, and enjoy what’s already here
Got any feedback? Let me know!
Domain Shuffling

There will be maintainance on this domain over the next few days, so the page might be unavailable intermittently. My ocrana.com email address is currently down as well.

The server that this page is hosted on crashed and some of the data got corrupted. Still hunting down everything that needs repairing, but the content should already be back up and running.
